Spinner Rings and Bangles

Learn traditional forging techniques to create a beautiful wide bangle, with or without spinners, or a gorgeous spinner ring - it’s your choice!

Spinners are delightful pieces of jewellery to make and to wear. The edges of the base ring or bangle are flared to capture the narrower satellites that spin freely. The silver can be textured with a variety of hammers and decorative punches, the edges of the main ring filed into waves or left straight and the silver can be given an antiqued finish or left bright and polished - so many variations each one is unique.

This is one of my favourite projects to teach as the spinners are so fun to wear - great if, like me, you play with your jewellery!

This workshop is suitable for beginners to jewellery making as it teaches many of the basic skills needed for more advanced skills, however those with previous experience will also find their skills tested and improved by the end of the session.

Is this topic a half day or full day's tuition?

A full day is needed to make either a spinner ring or a spinner bangle

Is any previous experience needed?

No, none at all! I will take you through everything you need step by step. This a great project for a fun day out, and it's also an ideal project for starting your jewellery making journey as it teaches basic skills that are important for other projects.

What are the material costs?

Materials (sterling silver sheet) are available for purchase on the day. The exact cost of the materials will be determined by the size and therefore weight of the ring or bangle you make and the price of silver on the day. The material costs for most rings is approximately £15. The material costs for most bangles without extra spinning bangles is approximately £25, whilst bangles with spinners may use £35-£45 of silver depending on the design that you choose.

I will weigh the examples that I have at the start of your tuition session so that you can see how the width of ring or bangle and number of spinners changes the silver cost. This will allow you to make design choices that suit your budget.
