Silver Chains

Learn all the traditional silversmithing and forging techniques

you need to create a beautiful chain bracelet!

Each chain starts as a length of silver wire. Coiling the wire creates the links for the bracelet, but as you can choose the size, hammered texture and shape of your links each bracelet is unique!

This project is perfect for beginners to jewellery making as it teaches many of the basic skills needed for more advanced skills, however those with previous experience will also find their skills tested and improved by the end of the session and may choose to make a more complicated chain - or even make it long enough for a necklace.

Is this topic a half day or full day's tuition?

Chain making needs a full day's tuition. If you are already comfortable with soldering you may also have time to use some left over chain links to make simple earrings or a pendant too.

Is any previous experience needed?

No, none at all! I will take you through everything you need step by step. This a great project for beginners. However, if you've already got jewellery making experience then I'll add in techniques such as pick soldering to make sure that you're adding to your skills.

What are the material costs?

Materials (sterling silver wire) are available for purchase on the day. The exact cost of the materials will be determined by the weight of the chain you make and the price of silver on the day. However material costs for most chain bracelets is approximately £22-£35 depending on the thickness of wire you choose and the complexity of your design.
