Balance for private workshop for Heather - Beautifully Curving Bangles and Spinner Rings
Anticlastic bangles are fascinating pieces of jewellery to make, using traditional forging techniques to create beautifully curves. The forging encourages the silver to curve back on itself, adding strength as well as beauty, and allowing you to create wide bangles from relatively thin gauge sheet metal.
This workshop will teach you all the traditional silversmithing techniques you need to create your own stunning sterling silver bangle, which you can texture and shape to suit your own style. The class is perfect for beginners to jewellery making as it teaches many of the basic skills needed for more advanced skills, however those with previous experience will also find their skills tested and improved by the end of the session and will have the opportunity to make a more complex bangle with spinning bangles added to the middle as shown by the last photo. You will have a choice of textures to choose from for your bangle.
You also have the choice of making a spinner ring instead of a spinner bangle as the two projects use similar materials and techniques.
Tea, coffee, biscuits and cakes are included in the workshop fee, but lunch is not provided.
Date and Venue
10am-4.30pm Saturday 28th March 2020 at The Sorting Office Studios, 37 Wells Road, Eastleigh, Hampshire. Full directions will be emailed.
Materials (sterling silver sheet) are available for purchase on the day. The exact cost of the materials will be determined by the size and therefore weight of the bangle you make and the price of silver on the day, however material costs for most bangles without extra spinning bangles is approximately £18-£22 - these bangles retail for £108. Bangles with spinners may use £30-£35 of silver depending on the design that you choose - these retail for £135-£160.
